If you are confused about what you really want as a career, then here are a few things that you should consider before making a decision.

The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) is an offline test that is conducted for admissions in MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, Nursing, and other programs. All government and private medical schools will admit students based on a 15% AIQ and an 85% State level quota. NEET is also the only valid exam for admission to institutes like JIPMER, AIIMS, PGIMER, and others.

One of India’s most difficult national medical entrance exams is NEET. The fact that competition is high and seats are limited, makes NEET much more challenging. Every year, the number of candidates climbs, and the cutoff rises in lockstep. It gets considerably more difficult as a result.

This might make you wonder whether this exam is really for you?

Is NEET For You?

Students from the science stream often believe that NEET is something that they have to give after 12. That’s not the case really! If you don’t have an inclination towards a medical career, you don’t have to give this exam. If you are confused about what you really want as a career, then here are a few things that you should consider before making a decision-

You second guessing is a sign-

Students who are passionate about being doctors or doing an MBBS are never confused about whether they want to give NEET or not. They know that this is what they want. If you are confused about it, you might not really want it! I would still recommend going over your thoughts thoroughly and then making a decision.

Can you take the stress-

If you are someone with a weak heart or someone who cannot take stress well, you should think twice! NEET is a very competitive and mentally tiring exam that requires months of preparation and long hours of studying. If you are someone who cannot take stress well, a medical career would be difficult for you, as there is a lot of studying.

You can explore other science fields-

If you are interested in science, but not necessarily the medical field, you can consider skipping NEET. There are many other career options that you can explore that will help you contribute to the world in many different ways. You can get into research or you can opt to get into the education industry.

Societal, Family, Or Peer Pressure-

If you are being told by your family members to give NEET, even if you are not interested in it, you should have a talk with them. Tell them that even if you get into the medical field, you won’t ever be happy or might not even grow.

Always remember that you should never go for a career option that does not excite you or make you feel content. You can have an amazing career ahead even if you go non-medical.

After asking these questions to yourself, if you cannot imagine giving NEET or working in a medical field, you should probably listen to your heart. NEET isn’t for everybody and there is so much more to explore. You can still get into a science field without giving the NEET exam, so don’t run with the crowd and decide your life for yourself.

But, if you want to become a doctor and cannot imagine yourself doing anything else, then go ahead and chase your dreams. Medical is still a very fulfilling and respected career and lakhs of people give NEET each year. Work hard and you will definitely succeed!
