WHAT IS ORGANIC CHEMISTRY?

Organic chemistry is the branch of chemistry that studies the structure, properties, and reactions of organic compounds which contain carbon in covalent bonding. The study of the structure determines its chemical composition and formula. The study of properties includes physical and chemical properties and evaluation of chemical reactivity to understand their behavior. The study of organic reaction includes the chemical synthesis of natural products, drugs, and polymers and the study of individual organic molecules in a laboratory and via theoretical study.

Organic chemistry studies the structure of biological macromolecules and compounds by introducing altered functional groups and structuring them through the introduction of a substituent, rearrangement, or functional group. Examples of such modifications include substituting the oxygen atom in a hydroxyl group for an alkyl or a propionic group, replacing the carbon dioxide in a carbon monoxide with a hydroxyl group, etc.

Research On Organic Chemistry-

There is a great amount of research taking place to look into the potential of naturally occurring organic compounds to be used as building blocks for new organic chemical compounds. This research has been crucial in showing the benefits of using organic chemistry to mimic more complex biochemistry.
