KVPY, “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana,” was started by the Government to encourage more people to take up science as their career and pursue research in this field. The Indian Institute of Science is currently managing it. This program aims to assist bright and potential students in pursuing their goals and using their talent in research and development in the country. The selected students will be given stipends till their pre Ph.D. or 5 years, whichever is earlier. The INSPIRE PROGRAMME funds it by the government of India.
To get selected for this, a student has to write the KVPY Aptitude Test. There are 3 streams under which this exam can be written.
Stream SA: Students in their class 11 (science subjects) and have secured a minimum of 75% aggregate ( 65% for SC/ST/PWD) in Mathematics and Science subjects in their class 10 are eligible to apply. They must be in their class 11.
Stream SX: Students in their class 12 (science subjects) and have secured a minimum of 75% aggregate ( 65% for SC/ST/PWD) in Mathematics and Science subjects in their class 10 are eligible to apply. They must be in their class 12.
Stream SB: Students in their 1st year of an undergraduate program in Basic Sciences like ( Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. ) and secured an aggregate minimum of 60% ( 50% for SC/ST/PWD) in their Mathematics and Science subjects in their 12th grade are eligible to apply.
All selected students will start to receive their stipend only if they are going to do their undergraduate course in basic sciences ( B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.) in India. If a student picks an engineering course, then they will not be eligible to receive the funds even if they are selected for the fellowship.
