For this academic year, the Central Board of Secondary Education and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education or CBSE, ICSE Term 1 Board Exams 2022 have begun in an offline format. On November 18, 2021, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition submitted by pupils seeking the hybridization of 10th and 12th-grade exams. As a result, the exams will take place in time and in accordance with COVID-19 safety regulations.
A Bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice CT Ravi Kumar heard the CBSE, ICSE Term 1 Board Exams 2022 case. The Bench noted that this plea had been made at the eleventh hour and hence could not be considered at this time. Following the presentation of both sides’ reasons, the order was passed.
While presenting his reasons, the Solicitor General, SG, stated that all safeguards had been taken for the Board exams this time. Furthermore, the number of exam centers has been increased this time, and there will be 12 pupils in each classroom to preserve social distance. Originally, the petition was set to be heard on November 15, 2021. The Bench, however, deferred the hearing to today for a variety of reasons. It stated that the topic would be heard today alongside another case.
A group of six students had filed a petition challenging CBSE and CISCE’s plan to hold 10th and 12th Board exams in offline mode. It was especially looking for the removal of two circulars from both boards. The circulars are CBSE’s dated October 14, 2021, and CISCE’s dated October 22, 2021. Both of these announcements list the exam dates for Term 1 and state that they will be held online.
Term 1 Board Exams for CBSE and ICSE in 2022 have already begun and are being held in an offline format. Despite the fact that the hearing was postponed and students began taking examinations, they were eagerly anticipating the Supreme Court’s judgment.
The petitioners claimed that holding Term 1 exams in offline mode is not a prudent move because it increases the risk of the COVID-19 virus spreading. They support their claims by stating that because this age group is not vaccinated, they are more susceptible to infection.
